—- FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ——–

This wedding season, in celebration of love, one couple will be randomly chosen to receive a Lightfoot Arts portrait and have their story told.

Canadian artist Shannon Lightfoot is a profound visual story teller and his entirely unique technique is the culmination of 12 years of development. A scroll saw is used to first cut the images into the board. Then, upon paint application, Shannon is able to choose the elements of the story that he wishes to become the primary and secondary focus of the viewer. From afar his portraits appear to be two dimensional; however, as the viewer soon discovers, a whole story unfolds before the eye as the cutlines reveal images and words hidden at a distance. It is this unique quality that lends such power to a Lightfoot piece. A portrait is never simply a portrait and a landscape is much more than a view, these images grow to become the transcription of a story.

Commissioned work includes wedding portraits, beloved pets, famous athletes, musicians, artists, landscapes and businesses.

Include: couple’s full names, your name (if you are submitting on behalf of someone), email, telephone, location and ceremony date. The draw will take place in October 2010.

The color of breast milk, this piece is a deeply emotional one. It is important that it not be misinterpreted. The anger depicted is not of a mother towards her child. On the contrary, Postpartum depicts the anger that surfaces when the new parents are blindsided by the enormity of the task at hand. “Why did no one tell me this would be so crazy?” falls from their lips. The love is boundless and yet also binding. One’s old life is forever changed and in order to be a conscious parent one must evolve every aspect of one’s being. Phrases such as ‘want of flesh’ and ‘grasp me’ tell of the constant demands made upon the new mother physically, emotionally, and mentally. And for the mother that wants to do only the best by her child the pressure of new motherhood can be crippling.

This piece embodies an aspect of parenting that is still rarely acknowledged in an open arena. It will no longer be such a scary topic when we realize that these feelings are the symptoms of incredible growth.
